knitta

i've been away for a while so a lot of ideas have been piling up in my head. this holiday season was especially busy. i'm glad it's over so i can get back to my normal schedule. hopefully 2009 turns out a lot better than 2008, or at least has more in store for me than 2008 did.

my sister is a stage manager and that means i go to a lot of plays. lately she's been working for this little company that has their plays at different locations. so i've been able to see parts of houston i'd never seen before. most recently their play was at a place called diverseworks. it's an awesome space that houses different forms of art. next to their stage was an art gallery and there was a lot of other space for all sorts of things. i only saw the art gallery and the stage but i was really impressed and plan to go back because the area is so photogenic haha. anyways the reason i'm writing about this is because while i was outside waiting for my sister i noticed something on the railing.

it was knitting! i was so excited because i've heard of knitta through a couple blogs and even seen some in austin, but i hadn't in houston (odd cause i'm not sure, but i think it may have started in houston.) sadly, no one i was with knew what i was talking about so the excitement only lasted a second. haha. i think it's such a cool form of performance art. it's like a sweet spin on street tagging! i can't knit so i don't know how long something like this takes but i'm sure it took a while. i just wanted to show that it was appreciated and put a smile on my face. it's nice when art evokes emotions, that's the kind of stuff i'm passionate about. i know when i start to ask questions and think about the hows and whys of art that i'm really into it. i really miss being around art, and it was nice to have a day totally surrounded by it.
